Instead of Texting, I Made This Card

Hi guys! I've recently started crafting and blogging, so I'm still getting the hang of things around here.

I was inspired to create this card for Lawn Fawn's new challenge blog!

I originally had the idea of creating a card using Lawn Fawn's Say Cheese polaroid die-cut, but I didn't know where to start. Using the inner square from the die cut, I watercolored a simple grass and sky background with Distress Ink cubes. Once it dried, I sprinkled the background with water and dabbed out the excess water with a napkin.

I stamped out the birds, speech bubble, phone, and the envelope with the heart from Love Letters onto Strathmore Bristol Smooth paper. I also used the sentiment from this set for the bottom of the polaroid. The cupcake, candle, and presents are from Lawn Fawn's Birthday Tags and Winter Gifts stamp sets. For the party hats and pig, I used Mama Elephant's Lunar Animals stamps. Lastly, the elephant is from Simon Says Stamp's Wild Cuddly Critters.

I watercolored all of the images with Tombow Dual Brush pens. Once they were dry, I fussy cut the images and used a black Memento marker for a cleaner look. In attempt to darken the eye of the elephant, I made a small mistake. I had also stamped the penguin from Wild Cuddly Critters and did not use it, so I fussy cut the eyes out and glued them onto the elephant when I liked how they were placed.

To assemble the card, the base of the design was cut out using a 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" stitched rectangle. I glued some presents to the background of the polaroid first, using Tombow's Mono liquid glue and attached the frame, pig, and elephant using foam tape. When I had already placed the elephant where I wanted it, I realized I had forgotten about the hats. I simply glued the bottom portion of the hats to the critters I wanted them on before assembling the rest of the card. The red and blue birds were given dimension with foam tape, but I left the yellow one on its own and used 1/4" scor-tape to add it to the base. I went back and glued gifts in front of the pig and elephant and then the cupcake to the corner of the polaroid.

Once I was happy with the card, I attached it to a white card base with more scor-tape but accidentally left a white space at the top of the card when assembling. I wanted to cover up the line at the top of the card, so I stamped out three of the little banner stamps from the Birthday Tags and colored them with a rainbow look. Once again, I fussy cut each of the triangles out and covered the cut edges with a black marker. I used the same marker to color the top of the card to make it look like a long string and glued the banners to the top.

This is my first ever handmade card. What do you guys think? Let me know!
